Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that uses gentle touch to promote relaxation, wellbeing, and increased energy levels. The word "reiki" means "universal life energy". How it works: Reiki practitioners place their hands on or near a client's body to help direct energy and balance their energy fields. The goal is to help the body's natural healing abilities work more effectively. Reiki stands out as a gentle yet profound modality in the realm of holistic healing. Its ability to tap into the universal life force energy offers a unique path to balance and well-being. Whether you seek physical relief, emotional healing, or spiritual connection, Reiki has the potential to become a transformative force on your journey to holistic health.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. For me, it also allows the body to eliminate stagnant and toxic energy that needs to be released.

How do you pronounce it?

I was certified in 2018 in August in Reiki l, where I had the ability to learn what it was and to only perform on myself and my food and the environment which surrounded me. When it comes to Reiki ll, you now are granted to be able to perform Reiki on other beings as well as animals to be the catalyst for their healing. You are NOT the healer, but only the conduit (channel) from God to be granted being the catalyst to their healing. With Reiki lll you are now certified to teach Reiki to others and grant them their own certification, as you now through hours of performing this modality, are considered to have "mastered" Reiki. For me, even though I am l, ll and lll certified, I only perform Reiki ll as my practice to others.

What is Energy Healing?

Energy Healing is an ancient healing methodology which is used by people in many cultures around the world. It is based on universal truth agreed upon by today’s quantum physicists that everything in the universe is energy and different vibrational energies permeate everything in our environment. There are many forms of energy healing including Reiki, bio-field energy healing, distance healing, acupuncture, therapeutic touch, healing touch, polarity therapy, emotional freedom techniques, Qi-gong and more. Although each modality is governed by different principles and teaching philosophies, all are focused on restoring the body’s energy flow to promote health and well-being on the physical, mental-emotional and spiritual level.

The Origin of Reiki

A Japanese monk and scholar, Mr. Mikao Usui, rediscovered the use of Reiki to heal and promote good health. He discovered Reiki in the late 1800s through his meditation practices and his life-long study of ancient healing techniques and Sanskrit documents. Mr. Usui called this form of energy healing “a natural healing system”. Although Usui was a Japanese monk, Reiki is not affiliated with any religious practice or belief system.

The practice spread over the past century and has grown throughout the world. In western societies, Reiki is considered a non-invasive, complementary therapy that is used for stress reduction and symptom relief. In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of utilizing Reiki therapy in health care facilities including a few leading medical centers in the US. Several hospitals now offer Reiki therapy, especially in the cancer or oncology department, as an adjunct treatment or integrative therapy in patient care.

What is Usui Reiki?

Usui Reiki is a spiritual practice and healing art developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. It promotes relaxation, emotional balance, and overall well-being by harnessing universal healing energy that flows through all living beings. Usui Reiki is guided by five core principles, often referred to as the Reiki Precepts, which emphasize the importance of mental, emotional, and energetic healing. This practice is recognized for its ability to facilitate self-healing and enhance spiritual evolution.

What to expect at a session.

  • Be fully clothed
You can remain fully clothed, and most people remove their shoes. Reiki energy can pass through all materials, including plaster casts.

  • Lie down: I bring my massage table to your home. As you will lie face up during the session.

  • Touch/non-touch: Basically, Reiki is a "non-touch" therapy. But in the beginning of the session, I will touch your head and shoulders to begin activating the energy to flow. Sometimes, the practitioner will place their hands lightly on or over specific areas of your body, such as your head, torso, and limbs. They may hold their hands in each position for about 3 to 10 minutes.

  • Experience a range of sensations: You might feel a flow of energy, warmth, coolness, tingling, or nothing at all. Some say it feels like being in a trance or hypnotized.

  • Process your feelings: After the session, you should clear some time to process your feelings and mood. You might feel euphoric, tired, or drained.

  • Reiki is non-diagnostic, non-interventionist, and non-manipulative. The practitioner will never apply pressure or use intrusive or inappropriate hand placement.
